The Mughal Emperor Jehangir while reaching the Kashmir Valley has rightly said that "If there is heaven on earth, it is this, it is this, it is this." If this quote has to be rephrased in the present era it would be very apt to put it like, "If there is a Golfing paradise on earth, it is this, it is this, it is this". Kashmir is a state blessed by diverse natural splendours, spectacular landscapes and distinctive seasons, each more extravagantly beautiful than the other which has all along been a great attraction for tourists worldwide as a preferred destination in all components. We have the second oldest golf course in the country as well as the highest green golf course in the world. At present. Kashmir can boast of having one of the best golf courses in Asia - The Royal Springs Golf Course as well as the second oldest golf courses in the country i.e the Kashmir Golf Course and the highest green golf course in the world, which is the Gulmarg Golf Course. In addition to this, the Pahalgam Golf Course has been commissioned and has received international attention while the Golf Course at Jammu has been added to this golfing circuit.

Gulmarg is situated nearly 52 km from Srinagar and is the highest green golf course in the world. The historical Gulmarg Golf Course was opened in 1911 by the British. The origin of Gulmarg Golf Club goes back to the late 19th century when a six hole Course was made by Colonel Neville Chamberlain. The first Golf Championship was played at Gulmarg in 1922 and since then it has been nearly a 100 years of tournaments of both amateurs and professionals. Gulmarg, with its rarified atmosphere at 2650 mtrs is natural all the way. The Gulmarg Golf Course was redesigned and inaugurated in 2011. This Golf Course is carved within a meadow and has at least 16 different species of wild flowers that grow with the colorful lupins. The 18 hole Course is a sterm test for golfers if played from championship tees with a distance of 6858 mtrs and golfers can play from the regular tees and have a unique experience of playing at the highest green golf course in the world.

The Club facilities with all amenities are also available. The greens have been designed to merge into the natural landscape with undulations and contours merging with the surrounding areas. The grass on the greens is creeping bent. imported from the United States. It is one of the finest summer golfing destinations in the world.

With the Zabarwan hills as the backdrop and the Dal lake in the front, it is a setting made in a golfer's dream. The 18 holes, 1590 mtrs Course at a par 72 offer a challenge to all levels of players. The fairways are turfed with cool weather grass of different shades. Rye, Kentucky blue and tall Fescue has been bordering the trees and lends a touch of colour throughout the golfing season. The Club House is built in style reminiscent of old Kashmir architecture with separate wings for locker rooms. and other facility. The other bounties of the course include apricot, peach, cherry, pear and of course, apple trees. At 6615 mtrs this is not a short layout but altitude does make the golf ball fly further. The course has been designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. using imported Bent grass on Greens. With so much in its favour, it's easy to say why RSGC has been voted as India's best golf course.

The Pahalgam Golf Course will take your breath away with its sheer beauty and design. Set in the pretty town of Pahalgam and surrounded by soaring, fir-covered mountains with bare, snow-capped peaks rising behind them, the Course is set in a large bowl shaped expanse and is a must experience. Pahalgam Golf Course is approximately 100 km from Srinagar and situated at an altitude of 2150 mtrs (approx). The breathtaking surroundings add to the exhilaration and get your adrenaline pumping. The course will test yours skills, strategy and patience. The greens are fast and true with bent grass. With the clean, pure and revitalised air of Pahalgam for company, this is the closest you will get to attaining nirvana while playing golf. Golf carts are available at the course.

The par 72 Course is 18 hole with fairways of approximately 275 mtrs length and has two big and three small water bodies with an air-conditioned Club House. The most scenic Course in Jammu province with picturesque view has Trikuta Hills in north, Bahu Fort in south and Amar Mahal (built in 19th century by the Dogra Emperor) lie in the west. The 7400 mtrs Course is interesting and challenging in accordance with international standards.
